The Beginning of the End ch 2

He awoke to the pressure of a full bladder. In an urgent daze he rolled out of bed and stumbled to the door,  which confused his hands  leaving them with merely enough sense to group about and open it. The stale air from his bedroom whooshed out around him as he grasped the doorframe in self-collection. Eye's half open he peered to the jarred door on the other side of the stairs, and bounded across to the bathroom. In the dim light coming from the hallway he could just make out his father, Tobias, laid out over the toilet like a cheep rag doll, the corner of  his mouth crusted with vomit, and hair which fell in to his face like crude oil into a bucket.  Severus crept forward and unzipped his pants to relieve himself in to the sink, trying not to look at the man slumped pitifully on the floor. In truth he had never really hated his father as much as he said he did, and now, zipping up his pants on the day of his father's death, he felt a ping of guilt in his chest for what he was about to do.
Tobias Snape had been a person of hard discipline, and had even inflicted terror and pain upon severus many times as a child, but he was still his father. He closed his eyes standing there in the half light of the bathroom with his feet cold on the tiles, listening the weez in and out that protruded from his father's lungs. There had been a summer when his father had taken him fishing, and they had spent  several days out in the blistering sun on the lake. He had been very young then, and had tanned well. All that summer they had filled a photo album full of still frame photos. Things like that seemed to make him happy back then.
This time Severus sauntered across the hall to his room, and paused just one last time.
